Hathersage, Southwell and Woodborough

SUNDAY 18th AUGUST

Hathersage 5.5 miles

A circular walk led by James from Hathersage Village. The route headed north from the village to reach Stanage Edge. The gritstone edge stretches for approximately 4 miles and was recently featured in the classic film ‘Pride & Prejudice’ starring Keira Knightley. It gives stunning views of the Dark Peak moorlands and the Hope Valley. After walking along the edge for a mile the group then returned to Hathersage.

WEDNESDAY 21st AUGUST

Southwell 6.2 miles

A leisurely circular walk around the environs of Southwell taking in Norwood Park and Brackenhurst. Mostly flat terrain with a few gentle inclines. Views of the Minster, Southwell and the surrounding countryside.

Woodborough 7.2 miles

WELL DONE Lynn and Nick for leading your first walk for us.

We set off from Woodborough Village Hall initially tackling a steep hill to get to Ploughman’s Wood. (The wood was once part of a much larger area of woodland that dates back to the 13th century. It is mainly ash/oak woodland with some other species and this mix provides an excellent range of habitats for wildlife.) We continued past Lowdham Grange to reach St Mary’s Church Lowdham for a welcome coffee stop. The route continued through Lowdham Village, then past the Water Mill to reach Epperstone Village Hall for a lunch stop. We continued through the village down Toad Lane to reach the difficult road crossing on the Epperstone By Pass before returning to our start point. A good walk enjoyed by all.
