Flooded fields everywhere following the recent storms. At last, we are now able to start our New Year walking programme!
SUNDAY 7th January
Lanes and tracks around Caunton 7 miles
Our first walk led by James. A slightly modified route which included more road walking to avoid the worst of the mud. The route went through Caunton village and onwards via Beesthorpe Hall to Kersall. A tiny hamlet on a steepish hill. Once reaching the top of the hill and crossing the A616 the views in all directions were quite extensive. The return to Caunton followed a bridleway and then a footpath before suddenly appearing in Mill Lane Caunton.

WEDNESDAY 10thJanuary
Southwell - The ground beneath our feet 5.2 miles
Sue Carne led the way around the popular town of Southwell but this time with a very different theme.
She explained that from the Vikings to the Victorians - Southwell has a rich history. The walk took in landscape features that told us something about the past inhabitants of the area.

Wellingore circular, taking in Temple Bruer Tower 8.3 miles.
Into Lincolnshire today for Dave Roberts walk from Wellingore. Starting from the Memorial Hall the route crossed the heath and down part of the High Dyke. This road is on the route of Roman Ermine Street. Coffee was taken at Temple Bruer Tower. The route then headed north via New England Lane back to Wellingore.
Jacqui commented: Today was lovely. Temple Bruer was really interesting. Graffiti dating from 1688. We had sunshine most of the time though a bit cold.
Vince said: Excellent walk, cold but mainly sunny. Kathy said: It was a lovely day and not too much mud!!
