Wednesday 13th March
Nearly an inch of rain fell on saturated ground in the3 days before Wednesdays walks. We certainly got what we expected. Much water and mud!
Allington 5.3 miles
A lovely short Lincolnshire walk.
Tony reported: Nine members took to this walk after a week of much rain --- so we encountered “A FEW" puddles and a lot of soggy grass. The route went down to the Viking Way -walked about a mile on it then circled back to Allington. The wind was quite strong, but the weather was really fine. A record today ---- No Stiles.

Bilsthorpe Eakring 7.3 miles
A figure of eight route led by Roger. Starting from Bilsthorpe we had a steady gentle climb up to Brail Wood before continuing down to Eakring for a coffee stop at the Childrens Playground. The return route proceeded through the outskirts of Eakring passing the Mompasson Cross and the Eco Houses. We then had a steep descent through the wind farm crossing our outgoing route to reach St. Margarets Church in Bilsthorpe. The rain just about held off for our lunch in the churchyard. Unfortunately, the light rain came on whilst we completed the final loop through Bilsthorpe village to pick up the end of the Southwell trail and so back to the start.
Rev. William Mompesson settled at Eakring in Nottinghamshire following his time at the plague village of Eyam. Initial the villagers would not let him preach in the church so he conducted his services outdoors. In 1893 Lord Savile of Rufford Abbey erected a stone cross on the site of the Pulpit Ash to commemorate the unusual circumstances which had surrounded Mompesson's arrival in Nottinghamshire.
