Southwell and Carsington

WEDNESDAY 8th MAY

THANKS CAROL - Carsington Water

A group of us went to Carsington Water near Wirksworth in the Peak District for a walk to thank Carol Wilkinson for all her hard work as secretary of Newark Ramblers. After what seemed like months of wind and rain we were blessed with a perfect spring day for our stroll around the reservoir. The views across the water to the hill beyond were beautiful and the walk was on a well made track with frequent places where we could stop to rest to enjoy the scenery. The Visitor’s Centre at the end was an excellent place to have a tea or coffee before returning home.

It was a fitting way to celebrate all that Carol has done for the Ramblers in the area, and despite a couple of mishaps, it was a very enjoyable day.

SUNDAY 12TH MAY

Southwell on a Sunday Morning 5.7 miles

Caroline led the group and sent this report:

Sixteen of us joined a lovely walk round Southwell in beautiful sunshine. We were pleased to welcome Sarah as a new member to Ramblers but the ‘inquisitive cows’ failed to make an appearance. Nor was there any sign of mud. At one point we walked in silence and the birdsong was prolific even though there were no fairies in the glen. We took just one break at Brackenhurst where there was plenty of shade and the drinks in the Final Whistle at the end of the walk were most welcome. A familiar and well trodden route but still much enjoyed by all.
