WEDNESDAY 15th MAY
Sherwood 6.5 miles
A small group of us met in Edwinstowe for a walk round Sherwood Forest, which is looking delightful at this time of year. Plenty of spring flowers, views across the River Maun and of course the rather large oak trees. As always a delightful walk. As well as the scenery it is always good to catch up with the other Ramblers and meet new ones such as Rosemary and Paul who joined us for the first time. Thank you Joyce for guiding us and thank you everyone for being such good company.

Over the Hill to Halam 8.2 miles
A bad weather forecast with rain expected. Some of us donned our waterproof gear but surprise surprise it stayed dry. Starting at Southwell Leisure Centre we went uphill along part of Robin Hood Way to Stubbins Lane. We heard piling from the new solar farm development which will eventually cross this path. New roadways have already been installed. Crossing the Southwell Oxton Road, we descended downhill towards Halam before heading uphill above Halam to check out the ‘Bee’ Road, where we did find several orchids. Downhill again into the village for our lunchbreak in the Churchyard. A final steep ascent from the back of the church returning to our start point through Westhorpe.

SUNDAY 19TH MAY
Ambergate 7.6 miles
Another sunny Sunday in Debyshire, but a slight route change due to muddy conditions. The group started from Ambergate station in the Derwent valley, climbing through ancient woodland past the village of Fritchley to the historic village of Crich (famous as Cardale in Peak Practice). They continued uphill past Crich Stand, which is a memorial tower, originally erected in 1923 to the memory of the 11,409 members of the Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment who died in the First World War. The descent skirted a disused quarry, crossed the Tramway Museum's tram track near to its terminus, and then wound down the hillside to the Cromford canal. The route continued along the canal towpath back to Ambergate. The walk had a total elevation gain of 296 metres.
