WEDNESDAY 22nd MAY

Long Bennington 3.8 miles

Maggie reported that seven intrepid walkers braved the wet weather. They did a revised, shorter walk with just one stop in Westborough, where they were able to shelter in the church porch.

Tony sent some photos and he commented it was a tribute to the magnificent  few (act 7 ) who  went and braved our English Weather..

SUNDAY 26TH MAY

Ploughman's Pre-lunch- Lowdham, Woodborough and Epperstone circular 9 miles

The routel gently ascended from Lowdham village hall car park to Ploughman Wood with long views toward the Vale of Belvoir. After a  coffee break, the walk visited rural village of  Woodborough, and then onward to Epperstone. From Epperstone there was a steep climb with more excellent views before returning to Lowdham for a Ploughman's rest! Muddy in parts but a nice walk on a pleasant day.

WEDNESDAY 29th MAY

Farnsfield Kirklington 6 miles

Leaving Farnsfield we headed across the playing fields before turning east to Edingley. Despite heavy overnight rain the going was reasonably good apart from one mud hollow we had to wade through. En route we discovered a field full of pyramidal orchids and buttercups. Our coffee stop was on the Southwell trail next to the now abandoned Kirklington station. Our route continued through an overgrown stretch before we emerged behind Kirklington Mill. Passing through the village we headed across country before picking up the Southwell Trail again back to Farnsfield. Needless to say several of the lasdies could not resist a visit to the excellent charity shop.

Brant Broughton Beckingham 7 miles

Margaret led a happy band of 18 from her front door through Brant Broughton before crossing the busy A17 and then across open fields to Beckingham. A look round the village included a stop at All Saints Church, a Grade II* listed parish church. The return to Brant Broughton required a  much easier crossing of the A17,  before passing the army camp en route. It turned out to be a lovely day for a walk despite the earlier rain forecast.
