Colston Bassett 7.5 miles
A circular route led by John starting from St Johns Church in Colston Bassett. The route headed south-westerly out of the village following the river Smite over part of the route to Kinoulton. Passing through the village they then followed the Grantham Canal for about 2miles before turning north back to the start.

WEDNESDAY 30th October
The Walter Hilton Way - Thurgarton Priory to Southwell Minster 5.5 miles
Sue led this linear walk following the Pilgrimage route from Thurgarton Priory to Southwell Minster. They took a bus from Southwell Leisure Centre to Thurgarton and then walked to the Priory Church of St Peter where Walter Hilton was an Augustinian monk and an influential guide to spiritual life throughout the middle ages. They then followed Walter’s steps to what was then the pro-cathedral under York, where water and oils were distributed to local churches. They passed through quiet countryside with great views over the Trent Valley and surrounding area, calling in at the Church of St James in Halloughton. This is a British Pilgrimage Trust walk.

Walter Hilton Way route added to the Library
Flawborough Staunton 6.3 miles
A large group of 30 with Dave at the head set of from the tiny hamlet of Flawborough. The route took us around the Kilvington lakes passing through Alverton, Kilvington and Staunton in the Vale. The three lakes at Kilvington were formed as a result of open-cast gypsum extraction. Gypsum is a heavy whitish crystalline rock which occurs in beds typically 25 feet or so beneath the surface. Its chemical substance is hydrated calcium sulphate, and its main uses are for making plaster and plaster-board for building, plaster-of-paris for setting broken bones, and a host of minor uses including as a carrier for medical pills, and a whitener for bread. Our lunch stop was at the welcoming St Mary’s church Staunton immediately adjacent to the Hall.
