Thorpe, Blidworth and Keyworth

WEDNESDAY 25h March

Thorpe on the Hill 5 miles

Kay led the walk from Whisby Nature Park car park passing through Thorpe on the Hill and then along field edge paths with good views across the countryside to Tunman Wood. After a short loop through Tunman Wood they returned along farm tracks and roadside pavements. There was an opportunity to explore Whisby Nature Park after the walk.

Blidworth Bottoms 6.3 miles

An intrepid band of Ramblers led by Paul and Rosemary in this walk through the wood around Blidworth. We started out in sleet and hail and were buffeted by strong winds through much of the walk. There were some bright intervals though and the countryside was beginning to become far more spring like. Good to have a walk with a few steep hills in it.  As always a great walk in good company.

SUNDAY 29th March

Keyworth to Widmerpool Circular 6 Miles

Well, done John for leading your first walk for the group. A delightful six mile walk through the Keyworth Wolds with mixed surfaces and gradients. Unfortunately for some there were 5 stiles to climb. There was a coffee stop at Widmerpool Church. In the old hall grounds in the ancient gardener’s cottage, they found the wonderful sculptures that were crafted from a redwood tree that had to be felled. One showed the old gardener and his wife, the other two young evacuees from Great Yarmouth one of whom lived in the cottage and remained after the war in the village.

Brigid commented: It was a lovely, varied walk (despite the very cold weather!).
